Choosing Financial Oppression & Defending Our Oppressors

INSANITY: “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.” It will be better this time.

Like many countries today, especially the U.S., and throughout history, God’s grace and providence has blessed and prospered them. By the hand of God through His servant Joseph, Egypt became a very prosperous and powerful kingdom (read Genesis chapters 39–50).

At some point though, God’s blessings routinely attract wicked rulers that try to take advantage of God’s people to build their own kingdom, how they see fit apart from God’s plan.

How does this happen?

Exodus 1:8 Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. 9 And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of Israel are too many and too mighty for us. 10 Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, lest they multiply, and, if war breaks out, they join our enemies and fight against us and escape from the land.” 11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with heavy burdens. They built for Pharaoh store cities, Pithom and Raamses. 12 But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were in dread of the people of Israel. 13 So they ruthlessly made the people of Israel work as slaves 14 and made their lives bitter with hard service, in mortar and brick, and in all kinds of work in the field. In all their work they ruthlessly made them work as slaves.

Why were the Israelites enslaved? They chose to be.

Pharaoh himself acknowledged Israel’s might and Egypt’s fear of them. They could have easily said “enough” and left without any real effort.

Why didn’t they stand against tyranny? The new Pharaoh specifically said to distract them with more work so that they focused on their own predicament and became complacent.

Distraction changes Focus.

Focus determines Attitude.

Attitude is reflected in Behavior.

Complacent behavior invites Tyranny.

Complacency was so prevalent that God revealed His power against the Egyptian gods through 10 plagues [The 10 Plagues — Jehovah Versus the Gods of Egypt.pmd (biblecharts.org)], not only to show His greatness to the Egyptians, but also to Israel. They needed to be awakened to the Truth as well as Egypt.

Egypt was in the hearts of God’s people instead of God.

Israel’s heart condition is evident later at Mt. Sinai when Israel used Egyptian symbols and idols for worship (read Exodus chapter 32).

However, God continued to be gracious to Israel.

Exodus 12:33 The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. “For otherwise,” they said, “we will all die!” 34 So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing. 35 The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing. 36 The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.

The Egyptian empire was built and prospered at the expense of God’s people. Now God will build up Israel at the expense of Egypt.

…the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous. — Proverbs 13:22b

God was fighting for them & they were RICH! However, …

Exodus 14:10 When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the Lord. 11 They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”

It still wasn’t enough for them to trust God. At the first sign of trouble, while still in Egyptian territory, they were willing to go right back. But God was still faithful.

Exodus 14:30 That day the Lord saved Israel from the hands of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians lying dead on the shore. 31 And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant.

They finally trusted God. It took a lot (not for God). Their response was appropriate for the occasion:

Exodus 15:1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the Lord: … “The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him…”

They worshipped and praised God for all He had done. The whole congregation singing out, “THANK YOU GOD! WE’RE FREE!!!” … Are they though?

Exodus 16:2 In the desert the whole community grumbled against Moses and Aaron. 3 The Israelites said to them, “If only we had died by the Lord’s hand in Egypt! There we sat around pots of meat and ate all the food we wanted, but you have brought us out into this desert to starve this entire assembly to death.”

Apparently, they ate quit well as slaves. That’s a good reason to go back to slavery and stop following God (written sarcastically). God provided food.

Exodus 17:3 But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?

Apparently, they had plenty of fresh water to drink as slaves also. Another good reason to go back to slavery and stop following God (written sarcastically). God provided water.

Numbers 14:1 That night all the members of the community raised their voices and wept aloud. 2 All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness! 3 Why is the Lord bringing us to this land only to let us fall by the sword? Our wives and children will be taken as plunder. Wouldn’t it be better for us to go back to Egypt?” 4 And they said to each other, “We should choose a leader and go back to Egypt.”

Going without food and water would be very difficult to endure and is a serious matter. However, Israel had seen the power of God provide for them time and time again. God Himself destroyed the Egyptians and provided their basic daily needs such as food and water without them having to lift a finger. They actually saw it happen!

Why would they relentlessly want to go back to Egypt to be slaves?

REALITY: Israel’s slavery was not within the borders of Egypt but within themselves.

Results

Numbers 32:13 The Lord’s anger burned against Israel and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until the whole generation of those who had done evil in his sight was gone.

That generations rebellion against God (sin) was so prevalent that they could not take possession of God’s generosity. He had led them to the promised land and was ready to give it to them, but they refused to show up to receive it. Sin is a very serious matter.

Doesn’t this whole situation sound familiar?

Don’t we know by now that our current financial system is taking advantage of us — making off like a bandit while we are plundered?

  • Rising taxes and benefits costs are taken out of our income before we see it; to fund excessively bureaucratic programs that are providing less and less value to us.
  • What’s left of our income flows through someone else’s bank where we receive pennies while they make infinite returns through loans that inflate the money supply and drive up prices.
  • We are taught that the best place to save for the future is in stock and bond markets where we bear ALL the risk but have ZERO control while everyone else gets paid before we do.
  • We are told that our home is our greatest asset but it costs us more and more every year (sounds like a liability for us) while producing income for the bank, government, insurance company, utility companies, etc. (sounds like an asset for them). Sure, the value increases every year (due to inflation caused by the banks), but the only way to access that increasing value is through a loan, that will again profit the lenders and inflate prices.

Everyone is getting rich on our financial behaviors but us.

Yet we keep supporting the monstrosity wishing things to be better this time. God has promised us his blessings and has told us what we need to do; but when trouble comes, we are ready to run to the same system that is taking advantage of us, rather than to Him. We also find plenty of “experts” who will lead us and encourage us to keep serving the wicked ruler.

WHY DO WE PUT UP WITH THIS?

It seems, like the Israelites, we too are distracted with noise and have grown comfortable in the illusion of prosperity, therefore we have forgotten what real freedom is like. We believe the “benefits” we receive from the current system cannot come from anywhere else and cannot be any better. We have gotten so used to the way things are, we can’t image what they could be. We are taught all of our lives a certain financial paradigm and cannot think beyond it to find real financial truth.

Solutions

Also like the Israelites, we already have the abilities within ourselves and the tools to overcome these hinderances. God has already given us the instruction manual to be free; to live in prosperity serving Him and each other.

Seeking to understand the Word of God should be our foundation. To build on the foundation of God’s Truth, here are some additional resources:

Politically, The Tenth Amendment Center has some great resources to help us understand our power as the people to overcome tyrannical policies. Here is a great article to start with: Nullification | Tenth Amendment Center

Financially, we must learn the truth about money and our financial system, then take control of it personally and unite with others to collaborate, consolidate, & compound the impact. Freedom within communities starts with individuals.

“Economic problems are best solved by people freely contracting with one another and with government limited to the function of enforcing those contracts. The absolute best way to do so is through the magnificent idea of dividend-paying whole life insurance. It has more in common with banking than it does with life insurance. A better name would have been a ‘banking system with a death benefit thrown in for good measure.’ It has been around for over 200 years and stood the test of time. It is not compulsory. It is not a government sponsored idea. It preceded the income tax idea by a long time. It is Private Property! Also, the only people who participate in this idea are people who truly care about other people. What a great group of people to be engaged in business with.” — Excerpts from ‘Becoming Your Own Banker’ by R. Nelson Nash

To learn more, read the short, 92-page book by R. Nelson Nash titled Becoming Your Own Banker: Unlock the Infinite Banking Concept. His second book is a great addition, titled Building Your Wearhouse of Wealth. Mr. Nash has taught as many people as he could for decades, prior to his passing in 2019, how to easily take control of their own personal financial system. It’s not a secret & it’s not difficult. The solution has been around for hundreds of years, hidden right under our noses by distractions and noise. Some have discovered it, implemented it, and reaped incredible results. More need to be made aware.
